Back from the City

It’s been a while, so first let me post my latest article (from last week, there isn’t one running this week), called GIN and Ironic, for reasons that will become evident when you read it. It’s about friends who buy in to get-rich-quick schemes, friends who get sucked into multi-level marketing, and then irritate everyone they know by trying to convert them. Lesson to be learned — don’t send me your spam-like “invitations” to join a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity. If it makes you feel better, I’ll say, “I prefer to miss out on life.”

Speaking of life, though, and LIVING it, I had a fabulous, relaxing week in New York! David and I stayed at Ink48, which is just a walk away from Times Square. We arrived the afternoon before that guy tried to blow up his car, by the way. I was right there in the thick of it that evening, and while the area was being evacuated and inspected, we ended up eating a few blocks away at a lovely place called Becco. I have tons of pictures from the trip that I will be putting into an album soon, with explanations of what everything is, but here’s a quick run-down. We toured the new High Line park, which was amazing, had lunch at the beautiful Daisy Martinez’s home, checked out some underground and specialty cocktail bars such as Death & Company, hooked up with some old, dear friends, and spent a whole lot of time walking. And walking. And walking some more, because that’s my favorite way to explore a town — on foot. Like I mentioned, pics and additional details coming soon!

Now I’m sitting up at Brecht Mini, waiting for expensive new tires to be put on my car because I ran into a curb and ruined my run-flat tire. OUCH. I’ll be here most of the day, waiting to hand in my credit card and bend over. But this one is my fault — I really hit the shit out of that curb. Expensive mistake. With tires, alignment, etc., we’re looking at around $1000. Like I said. OUCH. So much for that new hairdo I wanted. I’m happy we did New York already, because I certainly couldn’t afford it now! Such is life. Maybe I need to read that next “amazing opportunity” email I receive. Just kidding. ;)
