Ticks, Media, and Foodie Stuff

What’s with the heat wave, San Diego? I’m a flower, I need very specific conditions in which to thrive, the right amount of moisture in the air, just enough light, but not too much, and this heat is simply making me wilt. Fortunately, I have air conditioning, which is on right now, so maybe I should stop bitching. Especially when recently I really had something worth bitching about. I wrote all about it in my column this week, titled TICKS-IDENT. You had the low-down a few weeks back, but this is the full story. Plus, I have video footage from David’s filmed interview with Plum TV , the location of the ticks-ident. See for yourself:

Before I get to the media stuff, which you always hear so much about, let me talk food. I recently joined Chowhound, and though I helped David write the review for that new restaurant in Martha’s Vineyard, my first official post is a sort of scathing review of a local place, which you can READ HERE. I’m always so opinionated when it comes to dining experiences, and now I have a little forum in which to post my thoughts, feedback, suggestions, and rants. How fun! Last night we ate at Cucina Urbana, which was comfy cozy and delightful, so I’m hoping to have something up on that soon. Okay, then, onto the media…

This past Sunday I was on air with Kristen Cusato for her last day as morning anchor on KUSI. I threw together a segment about fun things to do in San Diego, which you can see by clicking HERE. This coming Thursday (a week from today) I will be back on NBC News in the Morning with my regular segment, Stepping Out with Barbarella. This time? The Bug Festival. I ate a worm, and I have it all on camera, and I will display my disgust to the city via television. Tune in at 6:45 a.m., that’s when I’m on. I’m also still co-hosting a weekly radio show with Jack Rice on KOGO, that was last night, and every Wednesday evening, at 7 p.m. We talk about local shit, and that’s always fun to do.

So, plenty to keep me busy. But this weekend, I plan on letting down my hair and partying a bit, because it’s San Diego Pride, and the parade begins a block from my home! Which means I don’t have to be neurotic about where I can pee, or getting stuck in the heat — I can always just walk across the street and take refuge in my air conditioned home. And now, I think I’ll dick off for a bit before cleaning up the place, we’re having a special guest over tonight for some grilling and balmy weather outside dining on the rooftop terrace.
